Gangotra 1916

Gangotra 1916 is Nottinghamshire’s highest rated and award winning luxury tailoring house, a place where craftsmanship, heritage and modern elegance meet.

Led by founder and renowned menswear designer Ash Gangotra, every shirt is cut with intention, shaped by over 35 years of sartorial expertise and a lifetime devoted to the art of dressing well.

A shirt from Gangotra 1916 is more than a measurement, it’s the beginning of a gentleman’s wardrobe. Precision in every line, comfort in every movement and quiet refinements in every detail.

Where Fit, Comfort and Craftsmanship Meet

A shirt shapes how you feel long before you add a jacket. Whether it’s for the working week, a summer evening, a weekend away or a black‑tie event, the right shirt sits cleanly, moves with you and feels considered.

A shirt cut to your measurements doesn’t bunch, pull or ride up. It simply sits, through a full day, a long dinner, a celebration, a quiet morning.

Every detail is considered ,from fabric and collar to cuffs, buttons and fit. Personalise with embroidered initials, pleats, darts and more for a shirt made flawlessly for you.

“Quality lives in the details — the fabric you choose, the collar you shape, the mother of pearl buttons.”

Fabrics That Define the Shirt

The Gangotra 1916 shirt fabric collection is sourced from some of the most renowned mills in the world, ensuring exceptional quality, refined weaves and an unforgettable feel against the skin.

Every cloth is woven from the finest Egyptian cotton, selected for its softness, durability and natural elegance. Our fabrics are predominantly two‑ply, offering greater strength, longevity and resilience than single yarn alternatives.

All fabrics are also finished with our “Speedy Iron” treatment, which helps prevent creasing and makes ironing noticeably easier, a shirt that feels superior, performs beautifully and maintains its refinement with minimal effort.

Explore an extensive array of quality fabrics, sourced from premium mills like AlbiniSoktasCanclini and Thomas Mason to name a few.

Whether you prefer the crispness of cotton poplin, the subtle texture of oxford, the luxury of linen, or the warmth of flannel, there’s a cloth to suit every occasion and style.

With over 500 premium fabrics to choose from, you can explore a spectrum of weights, finishes and weave structures, from lightweight summer shirting to structured business cloths, relaxed casual textures and refined evening options.

A collection of weaves crafted for clarity, comfort and longevity.

Pick a fabric to learn more about its character.

Poplin

A tight plain weave with a flat, sheen-touched surface and no visible texture. Light but remarkably durable, poplin keeps a sharp look through hard wear and breathes well in the heat. The cornerstone cloth for formal dress shirts, and equally at home open-collared with chinos.

Fil à Fil

Coloured and white yarns alternate through a plain weave, reading as solid colour from a distance and revealing a fine two-tone effect up close. Soft, resilient and quietly wrinkle-resistant — a pale blue fil à fil under a navy suit is one of the most refined things a man can wear.

Oxford

A basket weave of two yarns over and under, giving noticeable texture, a soft hand and excellent durability. It resists creasing better than plain weaves and softens with every wash. The classic button-down cloth, worn under a blazer or on its own.

Royal Oxford

The most luxurious of the Oxford family. Finer yarns in a more intricate pattern give exceptional softness and a subtle lustre, while keeping Oxford’s breathability. Made for occasions where refinement matters — suits, ties, evening.

Pinpoint Oxford

A finer, tighter cousin of the Oxford, woven with smaller yarns. It keeps a hint of Oxford texture while pressing far smarter, giving a shirt that works under a suit on Monday and with denim at the weekend.

Panama

Panama fabric, often called Cotton Panama, is created using a basket weave construction, where warp and weft threads interlace in pairs to form a criss cross pattern. This gives the fabric a subtle texture and a sturdier feel compared to plain weaves. Its medium weight, similar to denim, makes it both strong and comfortable, while the breathable cotton fibres ensure wear ability across seasons.

Twill

A diagonal weave with soft drape and a gentle natural sheen. Slightly heavier than poplin, it gives a shirt real body, resists wrinkling and stays neat from morning meeting to late dinner.

Fine Twill

Fine Twill is a sophisticated variation of the classic twill weave, prised for its smooth finish and subtle elegance. Woven with finer yarns in a diagonal structure, it produces a fabric that is softer, lighter and more refined than standard twill, while retaining the durability and resilience that twill is known for.

Herringbone

An elegant V-shaped weave that adds depth and character without shouting. Medium weight and quietly warm, it sits beautifully under a suit in the colder months and looks equally right open-collared.

Fine Herringbone

Fine Herringbone is a sophisticated variation of the classic herringbone weave, offering subtle texture with a polished finish. Woven with finer yarns, its delicate V shaped zigzag pattern is less pronounced than traditional herringbone, giving shirts a smooth, elegant appearance while retaining the fabric’s distinctive character.

Chambray

A coloured warp against a white weft gives chambray the soft two-tone look of denim in a far lighter, more breathable cloth. Airy and easy, it works as a relaxed button-down or layered under a jacket.

Flannel

Lightly napped cotton or wool, brushed for warmth and a gentle hand. Medium to heavy in weight but still breathable — the winter shirt, in checks or quiet solids, worn with wool trousers and boots.

Jersey

Jersey is a soft, stretchy knit fabric prised for its comfort and casual elegance. Unlike woven shirting cloths, jersey is made using a knitting technique that gives it natural elasticity, allowing shirts to move easily with the body.

Seersucker

Alternating tension in the weave creates a puckered surface that lifts away from the skin and lets air move. Cool, characterful and traditionally striped — the cloth for the hottest days of summer tailoring.

Linen

Woven from flax, with a crisp hand and a subtle slubbed surface. It creases, and that is precisely the charm. Cool in real heat, it softens with age so every shirt develops a character of its own.

Every shirt is yours to personalise

From collar shape to cuff style, mother of pearl buttons to embroidered initials, each element is chosen with intention. Select your preferred placket, stitching style, darts or pleats, and the details that speak quietly in your voice.

Add contrast fabrics, contrast buttonholes, your chosen embroidery font and thread colour and even decide where your initials should be placed.

For those who appreciate true craftsmanship, we also offer hand‑finished buttonholes, hand embroidery and hand attached sleeves, the kind of refinement found only in the world’s finest tailoring houses.

A Gangotra 1916 Made to Measure Shirt is more than a fit, it’s a composition of choices that reflect how you dress, how you move and how you want to be seen.
